Sheikh Zayed Mosque

I don't often take photographs of buildings but this is one of the most beautiful mosques in the world, taken just before sunrise.

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is located near the East end of Abu Dhabi Island.

The inside of the mosque is decorated with so many beautiful flowers.  

It is especially beautiful, as it comes out of the dark, at sunrise.
The marble seems to glow.

Unfortunately, Sheikh Zayed did not live to see the mosque completed.

His tomb is located in a small gated area just to the side of the mosque.

This photo taken through a small opening in the slats, of an elephant, chained in a shed. He had wounds on his ankles from the chains and sores on parts of his body. I wish we could have set him free.
